People usually think Type 1 Diabetes is about insulin. It is.
But it's also about never really leaving the house empty-handed.
A phone? Check. Wallet? Check. Keys? Check. Pancreas? Unfortunately, still not working.
Nobody tells you that you'll start carrying an entire emergency kit everywhere you go.
Nobody tells you that a simple meal can sometimes require more thought than a math problem.
Nobody tells you that before a road trip, a sleepover, or even a long school day, you'll automatically run through a mental checklist that most people never have to think about.
And after a while, it becomes normal. So normal, in fact, that you forget it's unusual until someone asks, "Wait, you have to do that every day?" Yes. Every day.
But if there's one thing Type 1 Diabetes has taught me, it's that humans are remarkably adaptable. Give us enough time, and we'll learn to carry things that once felt impossible. We'll learn new routines. We'll adjust. We'll keep going. And sometimes, we'll even find ways to laugh about it.
